Neither did recording artists Prince and Aretha Franklin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Each time&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2020\/10\/21\/black-panther-star-chad-boseman-died-without-a-will-why-you-need-one.html\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the news broke<\/a>, there was surprise that such notable names hadn\u2019t made estate plans. Yet, estate planning isn\u2019t as common as experts argue it should be, including among Black Americans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Overall, 33 percent of U.S. adults have a will, according to Caring.com\u2019s 2021 wills and estate planning survey. Meanwhile, 27.5 percent of Black Americans have one, up from 25.9 percent in 2020. There is also a lack of clarity around a loved one\u2019s wishes and potential discord that may cause among family members.
